Ne Speshi! Don`t Hurry! Не спеши!
The famous Soviet and Russian poet Eugene Yevtushenko is known mostly for his publicist poetry. But he also succeeded in creating very lyrical and heartfelt songs. This is one of them. Working together with the Soviet composer Arno Babadzhanyan, the poet noticed, the composers songs possessed a remarkable feature: they relieve fatigue in people, give them strength and help to overcome the life difficulties. The composer himself told that no one of his songs appeared out of the blue, they all were based on the certain events or impressions of life. He told: "My songs are about love, joy, sadness, in one word about the eternal and simple human feelings. Just this way the songs have been composed on the Earth for centuries. The songs of Arno Babadzhanyan became the classics of the genre and are often included in the concerts by both famous and starting performers, meeting the overall people`s applause and love.
The story of the song creation reminds an anecdote. Once in 1963, in Moscow, Arno Babadzhanyan invited the friends of his to spend an evening together. Yevtushenko came first and the composer played to him the newly composed melody. He used to create his melodies in advance, and the lyrics followed. The poet liked the new song and after a short thinking offered a bet: for a bottle of cognac he was ready to compose the lyrics immediately. He took a bottle of the mineral water "Borjomi" in advance and left for another room. After about twenty minutes, when all the guests gathered, Yevtushenko came out with the ready lyrics on the paper. That way the new masterpiece was born. This song became the first step to the all-USSR glory for the composer. Soon after he met a talented young singer Muslim Magomaev, who became the first and the most famous performer of this song. The song became very well-known and the leading stage singers of the USSR included it in there repertoire. The song became popular among the people but it is a bit difficult for an amateur performance.

Russian text:
Transliteration:
Ty speshi, ty speshi ko mne, Esli ya vdali, esli trudno mne, Esli ya slovno v strashnom sne, Esli ten bedy v moyom okne... Ty speshi kogda obidyat vdrug, Ty speshi kogda mne nuzhen drug, Ty speshi kogda grushchu v tishi, Ty speshi... Ty speshi... |
English text:
Do make haste, do make haste to me, If I`m far away, if it's hard for me, If I`m like in a frightful dream, If a trouble shades my happy beam... Do make haste, when treated badly once, Do make haste, when friendship is my chance, Do make haste, when silence sadly tastes Do make haste... Do make haste... Don`t make haste, don`t make haste when we Are together and feeling trouble-free, They agree, the leaves of the tree, The stars will say "yes" likewise the sea! Don`t make haste, when we are eyes to eyes... Don`t make haste, when better otherwise... Don`t make haste, when silence nicely tastes... Don`t make haste... Don`t make haste...
